In Grade 6, my students learn about a variety of different topics in Science class!
They will understand life systems through learning about biodiversity and how it includes a diversity of individuals, species, and ecosystems and how they interrelate by making connections between these groups. My students will also understand the importance of maintaining this biodiversity for the health of the planet and that their choices can have an impact on our world.
In addition, my students will understand structures and mechanisms by learning about the wonders of flight and air!
Also, our class will understand matter and energy by learning about electricity and devices that use it. My students will see how electricity can be changed into different forms of energy and vice versa. My students will also make connections between electricity and its role in the world, both socially and environmentally. Just like in the biodiversity strand, students will see how their choices when using electricity can have an effect on the environment.
Last but not least, my students will learn about space and how Earth is a part of one great big system! They will see how space exploration has given us a much bigger understanding of our world and the universe that surrounds it.
