Dear Parents...

Dear Parent/Guardian,

My name is Jennifer Kaestner and I am your child(ren)’s teacher for this school year.

In my classroom, my students will have a wide variety of activities and assignments that will make their learning enjoyable. When teaching, my philosophy is that learning needs to be fun and engaging for all students so that they learn as much as possible and do their best. I will work with and get to know your child(ren) so that I can give them the best possible instruction.

In addition, I hope that my classroom will be a safe and inclusive space for each and every student I teach. I will not tolerate bullying, because no one deserves to be treated that way. I expect each of my students to respect one another and be accepting of other’s cultures and lifestyles. This can also be seen through how my classroom is arranged: in groups. Students will work with one another and learn collaboratively.

I believe that literacy and numeracy are extremely important, so much of each school day will be spent working on English and Math. In addition, every Friday, twenty minutes will be set aside for silent reading. Students may bring books, magazines, etc. from home, but I also have numerous texts in the classroom for students to borrow if they would like. Also, if students are interested in doing even more reading, I will also be in charge of the Junior Book Club this year.

Finally, as a parent, you have an important role to play in your child(ren)’s education. Please support them at home by making sure that they have a space free of distractions set aside for them to do their homework. If you can, it would also be great if you helped your child(ren) with their homework when they ask you questions. Learning takes time and repetition, and with your help, I hope that your child(ren) can have a successful year.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to talk with me about your child(ren), do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope to make this year an excellent one!

Sincerely,
- Jennifer Kaestner
